They’re original job is to plan, repair, and install the drywall to cover walls, ceilings, and movable partitions inside homes and also, business spaces. Their duties and responsibilities include scribing and breaking boards along these lines, having considerable knowledge of the industry's standards, and fitting boards into specified positions. They should have good math skills, good problem-solving skills, and know how to operate a scissor lift to perform the job well. Aside from this, they should also be confident in their judgment and experience to get the job done.

The Detroit Training Center has created a 24-Hour training program to prepare students with the skills necessary which include: learning how to measure, order drywall, how to hang in a renovation or new construction project including advanced techniques for corners and curves.
