This is a state-approved pre-licensure course providing 60 hours of required education needed in order to become a State of Michigan Residential Builder. The class covers in-depth lecture and hands-on training. Additionally, we supply the tools and materials necessary to complete the training. A Residential Builder may build a new home from the ground up or may do any kind of repairs regulated under Article 24 of the Occupational Code. He or she may contract for the whole job, but will have to subcontract for plumbing, electrical, and mechanical contractors.
Course material covers business/law and trade potions of the Michigan Residential Builder exam. Topics for the business and law portion include regulatory and statutory requirements, business organization, bidding and estimating, contracts, project management and supervision, accounting and finance, personnel, insurance, and payroll taxes. The trade portion of the curriculum includes layout, plans, specifications, and estimating, excavation and site work, concrete, and safety.
Process: a certificate of completion is awarded to students that successfully complete the course. then, he or she may obtain an individual residential builder and maintenance & Alteration contractor license application on the lara website. the application must be submitted with a copy of the official certificate of completion provided by us at dtc.
